Hugh Kennedy
Hugh Kennedy is a senior associate with Lavelle Coleman and heads up our
Shipping Law, Transport and Insurance Department.
After completing a Masters in shipping law at Southampton University, Hugh qualified and worked for seven years with a London City law firm specialising in shipping law and insurance law. He also spent one year seconded to Skuld P&I Club, working directly for ship owners and charterers.
Before moving to Lavelle Coleman, Hugh practised with another leading law firm in Ireland and has been involved in many recent high profile shipping law matters in Ireland. Hugh is instructed by the prominent P&I Clubs, cargo and hull underwriters, and by leading International law firms who specialise in shipping, transport and insurance law.
Hugh regularly advises and lectures on all aspects of Admiralty law, marine law and transport law including ship arrest in Ireland, collisions, salvage, casualty investigation, cargo claims, International Liability Conventions, CMR, road haulage, general insurance cover, contractual terms and conditions, jurisdiction disputes, bills of lading, charter parties and yacht claims.
Hugh's clients also include ship-owners, charterers, port agents, cargo underwriters, road hauliers, freight forwarders, shippers and receivers for all types of cargo, insurance brokers, surveyors, fishermen, and yachtsmen.

- Advising leading Hull and Machinery underwriters on salvage and pollution issues arising out of a sunken vessel
- Acting for an In Rem creditor in relation to Ship Arrest proceedings to secure recovery from proceeds of sale of an arrested vessel
